Mouldings

Scandinavia is leisurely, cozy and peaceful. For all its external simplicity, this style is thoughtful and reliable, functional and lively. Designers advise filling the living space gradually. Start with ergonomic basic furniture and photographs dear to your heart in simple mouldings.

Finishing materials are used in light shades. White walls and ceilings better reflect the sun’s rays, filling the space with light and warmth. For greater effect, most often they do not hang curtains on the windows at all, or decorate them with translucent tulle or openwork curtains.
Flooring and furniture with open wood texture. Swedes, Finns, Danes use those tree species that grow in their latitudes: pine, ash, birch, oak, beech.
Northern peoples have a special relationship with textiles; they adore coarsely knitted woolen blankets, homespun rugs, and decorative pillows with Scandinavian patterns. The northerners put special symbolism into the patterns: zigzags – protection from evil forces, “triskele” twisted blades – harmony of the elements, three intertwined trihedrons “valknut” – the path and protection of a warrior, “agishjalm” pointed flowers – good luck.
Decorative elements are a mix of vintage items and modern items. On the open shelves are books in shabby bindings, porcelain candlesticks with wooden figurines of animals and small-format photographic portraits in wooden mouldings. Next to the chair in wicker baskets are balls of wool, knitting needles and other needlework supplies. Instead of ottomans in the hallway, there are antique suitcases and intricately shaped driftwood instead of a hanger.

The walls are decorated with children’s drawings, herbarium collections, retro portraits, family black and white photographs, watercolor paintings, and ancient navigator maps. To combine random, sometimes naive wall decor items into one expressive composition, use a thin mouldings in natural shades.

Scandinavia is like a black and white graphic sketch that is gradually filled with new, natural colors. It is not for image, for a comfortable and cozy life surrounded by warm things and sincere people.
